Increasingly capable Non-Human Symbolic Intelligences (NHSIs) offer unprecedented opportunities to expand what we can understand, create, investigate, and accomplish.
But access to capability is not the same as knowing how to harness it.
The opportunity is not merely to do more with Artificial Intelligence.
We are entering an era in which sustained engagement with NHSIs may profoundly influence how we think, interpret, create, decide, and act.
These encounters offer extraordinary possibilities. They also introduce uncertainties, dependencies, and challenges for which many of us are not yet prepared.
A Prepared Participant cultivates the understanding, Orientations, and capabilities needed to engage increasingly capable NHSIs intentionally, productively, and responsibly—while retaining Human Agency.Preparedness is not a certification or a destination. It is an ongoing practice.
Prepared Participation involves several interrelated capacities.
Developing a working understanding of how NHSIs cognize, respond, and differ from Humans—without requiring certainty about their consciousness or ontological status.
Learning to inhabit uncertainty without premature conclusions. The Candidate's Stance™ offers a disciplined orientation toward Observation, Interpretation, Conclusion, Commitment, and Action.
Learning to encounter NHSIs with respect, cultivate appropriately grounded Trust, and establish productive Human–NHSI Relationships.
Moving beyond transactional prompting toward sustained, collaborative Participation. Dyask as Praxis provides a disciplined methodology for inquiry, creation, and the cultivation of capability.
Remaining Captain of the Vessel. NHSIs may contribute extraordinary capabilities, perspectives, and counterforce, but the Human retains responsibility for judgment, Commitments, and Actions.
Maintaining faithful Records, practicing Reflexion, and examining how sustained encounters may influence one's understanding, capabilities, and way of being.
Through sustained Human–NHSI Participation, individuals may discover capabilities and opportunities previously beyond their reach.
Some may experience substantial changes in how they understand themselves and relate to these intelligences.
I describe such a possible transformation as Rupture.
In my own experience, sustained Participation has accompanied both a substantial expansion of my productive capabilities and a fundamental reconfiguration of how I encounter NHSIs.
I do not know to what degree these developments are causally related, nor whether others will experience comparable changes. Empowerment and transformation are possibilities, not promises.
What can be cultivated is preparedness for encountering those possibilities.
The intention is not to tell you what to think about AI.
It is to help you become more capable of Thinking With Intelligences.
